Armed man surrenders after asking to hug mother, wife

NONTHABURI — 8 October 2026, A 41-year-old man wanted on an arrest warrant surrendered to police after an hours-long standoff outside a luxury condominium in Nonthaburi, agreeing to put down his guns after asking to hug his mother and wife before being arrested.

Police from Provincial Police Region 1 investigation unit arrived at the luxury condominium on Rattanathibet Road in Sai Ma, Mueang Nonthaburi, at around 17:10 to arrest Chalermphon, 41, under an arrest warrant issued by Bang Mae Nang Police Station.

Chalermphon reportedly jumped from the second floor of the condominium in an attempt to escape arrest. After landing outside the building, he pointed a firearm at his own head, prompting police to close off the area and begin negotiations.

Pol Col Chokchai Khanajaroen, deputy commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, Pol Col Supachai Srisak, superintendent of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police investigation unit, and Pol Col Phumisith Tangwitdecha, superintendent of Bang Si Mueang Police Station, joined officers at the scene to negotiate with him.

The initial negotiations failed, as Chalermphon refused to put down his weapon. Police then changed their approach, asking his wife and son to speak with him by phone before his mother arrived at the scene to persuade him to surrender.

At around 18:30, Chalermphon finally put down his weapon and allowed police to take him into custody after negotiating for the opportunity to hug his mother and wife before being arrested.

He had also suffered a broken leg after jumping from the second floor while attempting to evade arrest.

A search of his shoulder bag found another 9mm handgun loaded with a full magazine and ready to fire. The firearm he had been using to point at his own head was a .45-calibre handgun, bringing the total number of firearms seized to two.

After being taken into custody, Chalermphon asked to see his wife and mother and hugged them as he had requested before being taken to Phra Nang Klao Hospital for medical treatment.

Police records showed that the Nonthaburi Provincial Court had issued an arrest warrant for Chalermphon on charges including attempted murder, carrying a firearm in public, firing a gun in public and possessing a firearm and ammunition. The case is being handled by Bang Mae Nang Police Station in Nonthaburi.

Police also said he would face an additional charge of carrying a firearm in a public place without permission.
