UDON THANI — 18 October 2026, Photos of mysterious footprints found in a forest stream in Ban Phue district have sparked online speculation that they could belong to a dinosaur, with some social media users suggesting a meat-eating theropod.
Facebook user Pichai Prathetsena posted photos of the tracks in the group “นี่ตัวอะไร” (“What animal is this?”), asking whether they could be dinosaur footprints. He said he had found them near a stream in a forest in Ban Phue district, Udon Thani.
The post drew comments from group members who examined the shapes and discussed possible origins. One group administrator suggested the marks might have been left by a theropod, a group of predominantly carnivorous dinosaurs.
The administrator said the tracks could potentially be associated with carcharodontosaurs, spinosaurs or megaraptors, although the exact group could not be determined from the images. The animal that made them could have been a juvenile or a fully grown dinosaur.
The administrator also noted that the Phu Phan rock formation in Udon Thani dates to the Cretaceous Period. However, the footprints have not been conclusively identified as belonging to any particular dinosaur genus.
Some commenters questioned whether the area had previously yielded similar discoveries and urged the relevant authorities to inspect the site to determine whether it could be a new fossil-track discovery.
Others said that if the tracks were confirmed to represent a previously undocumented find, the discovery could attract significant attention.
As of 18 October, no official confirmation had established that the marks were dinosaur footprints. Further examination by experts or relevant authorities is needed to determine their origin.
